Pregnancy and Bleaching Your Teeth

When I think of pregnancy I sometimes think of the book Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens with his first sentence starting out “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”

Many women experience such joy finding out they are pregnant followed by morning sickness and tiredness. Add dentistry and root canals into the picture and now you may see why this quote applies.

Today however I got a different question asked.

It was about teeth bleaching during pregnancy and what my thoughts were. I may have responded a little too quickly…

“Why do you want to bleach your teeth while you are pregnant?”

Then she replied:

“My teeth are looking yellow.”

I personally didn’t feel they were and told her so but she had a different standard.

Bleaching your teeth during pregnancy isn’t recommended while you are pregnant.

Because it has certain chemicals that your OB/GYN tells you to stay clear from. Also there isn’t enough evidence what bleaching in office or at home bleaching does to your baby.

My thoughts:

I wouldn’t take the risk especially with the limited amount of research on the topic.
