What is an endodontist?

An endodontist, a dentist who has undergone advanced training in treating the inside of the tooth, treats the diseases of the dental pulp and surrounding structures and diagnoses facial pain and related problems. General dentists sometimes refer patients to endodontists for consultation when the diagnosis is complicated or when treatment is difficult. An endodontist can save the tooth, helping to avoid extraction.
